John Dezzutti

John got his start in yoga through a longtime friend and running buddy when she invited him to one of the classes here at Charym, and his interest in yoga was piqued!

After attending a retreat with the Road Scholar program, John enrolled in the YTT program at the Kripalu School. There he was drawn to Adaptive Yoga, the focus of modifying yoga instruction for students based on their limitations using props and other modifications. Shortly thereafter he began teaching styles of gentle and adaptive yoga, providing a safe place for people of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of yoga (even when it may not look like traditional yoga).

John learned techniques using the barre when subbing Victoria’s Ballet Yoga class while she was on leave. He now teaches Barre Yoga on Friday mornings. John says, “Clearly strength, flexibility, and balance are descriptors of dancers, and these are exactly the things I want for my class participants. I also make liberal use of the barre in class. It was an honor for me when she asked if I would teach her class during the time she was away.”

John stepped into a leadership role with Charym this past February. He is working with fellow faculty member, Nicole Renee, to foster teacher, student and business relationships, along with community outreach.

John’s other hobbies include running and flying gliders.

On May 15, 2023, John reached a major milestone: a daily running streak of 2,000 days! He is a participant in the annual Litchfield Hills Road Race in June, and holds a run club leading up to the race for new and experienced runners. Participants meet in the lot behind Charym Yoga Studio, and are invited to participate in a cool down and stretching in his Gentle Flow class following the run.

John began flying gliders at 18 years-old and has logged over 3,000 hours in the sky! John enjoys introducing others to the joys of soaring, and invites his students to ask him more about it. He might just give you a lesson!
