Michael Torrant

Michael Torrant has been teaching yoga and functional movement practices since 2011. He has taught thousands of classes to date and enjoys utilizing his deep understanding of the body in teaching fellow students and teachers alike. He spent several years working closely with the Uconn Athletic Department in Storrs, leading regular yoga classes for its NCAA Division 1 athletic teams.

Michael has studied in depth with Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga® and is a certified teacher. He continues to study with her and explore her material as an esoteric counterbalance to his anatomy minded classes.

More recently, Michael completed a 640hr certification course in Anatomy Trains Structural Integration led by Tom Meyers out of coastal Maine. Based on the original ‘recipe’ of Rolfing created by Ida Rolf in the mid 20th century, Anatomy Trains is a systematic and total approach to treating the body.

His unique classes aim to unlock new perspectives and understandings of the body for his students as opposed to simply leading them through a flow. Infusing joy into the practice by virtue of exploring play is a cornerstone to his practice. A forever student of anatomy and all things movement, he strives to be the ‘guide on the side’ as opposed to the ‘sage on the stage’. Injury prevention and recovery continue to be a passion of his and he remains committed to continuing his education in manual therapy and movement practices.

Michael sees students for private yoga. To learn more and book an appointment, email us at info@charym.com.
